The Institute for Policy Alternatives (IPA) is a think-tank established to promote policy alternatives in Africa by combining the efforts of researchers with those of policy and development practitioners.

IPA undertakes research, training and development advocacy with a core principle of citizen engagement, emphasizing voices and perspectives of the poor, especially in rural communities.

» Are the poor accessing health insurance in Ghana, "Community Voices II" provides answers, by engaging over 4,000 from all 10 regions of Ghana to assess how the poor access health services through the NHIS. Detailed report published December 2006

» IPA partners with World Bank to launch World Development Report 2008 on "re-thinking agriculture", March 10 - 11, 2008 in Tamale, Northern Ghana. This event provokes critical assessment of the role of agriculture in an impoverished region, such as Northern Ghana.

» IPA Executive Director, Dr. Sulley Gariba, elected President of the African Evaluation Association at the Niamey conference of AfrEA, January 15 - 18, 2007

» IPA in partnership with Center for Economic Policy Analysis (CEPA) to prepare a development strategy aaction plan for northern Ghana. This strategy will address the needs for inclusive growth, equity and accelerated resource mobilization for development in Northern Ghana, including advocacy for the establishment of a Development Fund for Northern Ghana.
